I am sometimes tempted to not only put my Harley back on the road, but to turn it into a chopper or bobber at the same
time and therefore probably make myself a few inches sorter by riding a newly rigid-framed motorcycle down New Englands
horrific back roads. So tonight I was in that frame of mind again, and wandered into http://www.clubchopper.com/modules/Jig/index.php where I encountered this nice little list
of suppliers for frames and rolling kits and so forth, for Sportsters and Buells.

Content Management Systems Compared and Evaluated
Here's a site I've been looking for: http://cmsreport.com/
This site gathers together reviews, news and opinions of CMS systems like Drupal, Joomla, PHP-Nuke, & etc.
I'd appreciate hearing about other sites with this kind of mission if anyone can point me to them. This site probably (hopefully?) isn't the biggest of its type but its been useful to me.

Search Engine Optimization & Web Useability
Search Engine Optimization & Web Useability
I found some great content at SEOmoz.org on search engines and graphic resolutions used by websurfers.
They have a large document on optimizing your website for search engines available in multiple HTML and Open Office formats here: http://www.seomoz.org/beginners.php
I'm surprised that such a high quality tutorial is available for free. That's one book I don't need to buy.
They have a large set of articles on the site making it worth checking out once in a while. Since I'm a Web Virgin at creating content, I benefited from this blog post that describes the screen resolutions used by web surfers. For example, while it's interesting that 86% of US web surfers are at 1024x768 or better, it's an even more interesting number if for some odd reason 25% of your prospective customers are in the unhappy 14% using the lower resolutions. Screen Resolution Data

Just a short post to note that OneStat has released figures about worldwide and country specific screen resolutions of Internet users. Here's the global averages:
1. 1024 x 768 56.15%
2. 1280 x 1024 15.79%
3. 800 x 600 12.04%
4. 1280 x 800 4.09%
5. 1152 x 864 3.90%
And data for just the US:
1. 1024 x 768 52.22%
2. 800 x 600 13.81%
3. 1280 x 1024 16.91%
4. 1280 x 800 5.05%
5. 1152 x 864 3.63%
In my opinion, it's still advisable to design to 760pixels wide (for fixed width layouts), as 12% of the world and 14% of the US are on these resolutions. Once those numbers drop below 5%, it will be more practical for websites to feature fixed layouts tailored to 1024 pixels.

I like to sketch, and envy people who can really communicate well in that medium. Sometimes the artists I admire the most are the masters of minimalism. This guy is just a high school kid as far as I can tell, but he's worth checking out... if you don't mind stick figures. I think he's cool.
